Era of Diversion bio:

World politics and the dancefloor have a lot in common: both are seeing things get down and dirty. Meet Evol Intent, the multi-faceted production trio that wants to pound some sense into both with the group‚ Era of Diversion, a genre-smudged artist album of bipartisan beatmashing. As global affairs get heavier, and bass gets headier, this tribe of adrenalized insurgents has embraced the grit without getting mired in it, pushing things forward while making selectahs rewind.

With this album the concept is we are all living in an era of diversion says Gigantor, responsible for the groups viscous mixdowns. Much of the news media barely taps on issues that should be important to all of us. So in a tradition that has been passed down since The Prodigys mid-90s Their Law (as in Fuck them and their law), Evol Intent puts a galvanizing message on an unhinged carousel of beats and takes it to the streets on this self-released full-length debut.

The alleyways of DIY dissent are nothing new to this group, which broke wide with 2005s best-selling debut EP Police State on Renegade Hardware (featuring their homage to the golden era of gangsta rap Street Knowledge). But even before that, Gigantor, Knick and the Enemy brought together disparate interests with one goal: pop the closed dome of breakbeat music with thuggish, ruggish hip-hop, itchy, glitchy IDM and microedited metal.

Releasing several singles on the groups own Evol Intent Recordings, the trio seared its name into permanent rotation with releases for Trouble on Vinyls sublabel Barcode, Renegade Hardware and Dieselboy's Human Imprint. Tracks that still detonate and resonate include 7 Angels with 7 Plagues plus remixes of Slacknote and Hidden Wheres the Score' and Pish Posh's Corrupt Cops. More remixes and promo bumpers followed, most notably with Technical Itch, Future Cut, BT, EA Sports and Adult Swim.

For Dieselboy's 2006 Human Resource album Evol Intent showed how the group could simultaneously destruct, deconstruct and reconstruct the source materials, resulting in the companion (re)mix, Evol Intent Assemble the Monster. More recently, the trio has banded with Chris Renegade, Apex, as well as Ewun and Spor (both also featured rending darkside aggression on Era of Diversion) to launch the imprint Lifted Music, featuring the track Glock Party.

Obviously, Evol Intent slices, it dices. But wait, theres more. Each member has side projects from Knicks mash-up collaborations as Ludachrist to the Enemys electrofunk alter ego Treasure Fingers to Gigantors electro-fied waveform warping as Computer Club. And while all of this hasn't been merely a prelude, it culminates conclusively in Era of Diversion.

Mixing in-the-box but thinking outside it, Evol Intent has crafted an album that's as much tapped-in as plug-ins. All with backgrounds in distending punk, the members of Evol Intent have infused live keyboards, guitar and bass, plus confrontational confidence, in guttural tracks such as Smoke and Mirrors (featuring Aaron Bedard of BANE). Undiluted realness continues as the proselytizing of Cypher Linguistics spits across the friction-burned G-r.o.b.o.f.u.n.k. of Death, Lies and Videotape.
