Tucked away in Devonport’s dark underbelly lies the notorious Masonic Tavern. This is where bands like Mothra and Big Punch cut their teeth, living and breathing rock and roll. Notably absent from the NZ music awards due to extensive worldwide tours, these two bands are now back in the country and will be joined by one of NZ’s top alternative metal acts Rule of Thieves.
Big Punch… what happened to those guys you might ask It is fair to say they have been in hiding, taking a break from their gruelling rock and roll lifestyle. After releasing their astounding debut E.P earlier this year, things got a little out of control. The pressures of fame and constant touring took its toll, and they were victimised by the press like so many bands before them. But now they are back into the thriving scene of Auckland alternative rock where they belong. Check them out at http://www.facebook.com/BIGPUNCHBAND
Mothra keep promising a release soon, which may seem like nonsense, but it’s actually going to happen. They ‘might’ also have some new material up their sleeve for the lucky folk that attend, aswell as the usual size XL riffs and atmospheres that will take you to a far away land. And you won’t want to miss the critically acclaimed alternative metal act Rule of Thieves before the circling vultures of the mainstream come to claim them for their own. Check out their killer debut E.P at http://ruleofthieves.bandcamp.com/
If this epic bill wasn’t enough to pull punters through the door, up and coming local band Slipstream will unleash a debut performance at 8.30 pm to kick the night off. These guys have an average age of 9, but the musical talent of seasoned musicians. They are the antithesis of Justin Bieber and are not to be missed.
Just $10 on the door. Fresh new merch will be available aswell. ‘The Mothra Summer range’.
