Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra
Intermediate Workshop
Sunday 19th February 2012, 2.30pm
Grey Lynn Library Hall, 474 Great North Road, Grey Lynn
Duration: 90 minutes
So you’ve got several chords under your belt, you can strum a few songs, you’re not afraid to sing, but you’re not sure where to go next What you need is a madcap, friendly, totally am-dram yet utterly professional intermediate group workshop lead by members of The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra.
To take part in the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra’s intermediate workshop, you should be able to play at least 5 or 6 chords (including E) and be able to play a few songs on the ukulele (ie be able to strum in time with others, and change chords in time). Bonus brownie points if you know a bar chord or two, and if you have a little bit of basic understanding of music theory. Come prepared to be challenged mentally and musically!
Some of the topics that will be covered in our 90 minute workshop: pick vs fingers, playing a melody (for those who are ready), accents and strumming patterns, “chord shape” theory, bar chords, arranging parts in an ensemble (vocal and musical), and tips on how to start your own uke group. You may even get to see the triple strum in action.
Requirements:
- Your own ukulele. This must be in tune before the class starts.
- Knowledge of some basic chords, eg C, F, G, G7, D, Dm, E, A, possibly B, probably Am and hopefully the lovely E7.
Cost: $55 per student. Numbers are extremely limited.
These workshops are generally suitable for ages 12 and above. We may consider younger children on a case-by-case basis. Please email ukemgmnt at gmail dot com with your query.
