Come sing along with the Yoots at the Waitangi Day commemoration in full view of Kapiti Island where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed by Te Ati Awa ki Whakarongotai, Ngati Toa Rangatira and Ngati Raukawa.
All are warmly invited to the powhiri which begins at 10am in lower Campbell Park followed by speeches and a complimentary cuppa.
There's a historical iwi exhibition and Ta Moko demonstration at the adjacent Paekakariki Memorial Hall, kapa haka, music, ti rakau (stick game), hangi, food, craft and community group stalls, sideshows including laughing clowns, petting zoo, inflatable slide, bouncy castle (free), miniature train, mini-pony and cart rides and much more.
The Kapiti Coast Youth Council are bringing pro skaters to share tips and show off a few tricks at the skatepark in upper Campbell Park. They will also run a cultural mural painting session for young people.
Hosted by Kapiti Coast District Council in partnership with Ngati Toa Rangatira, Paekakariki hapu Ngati Haumia, and Te Whakaminenga o Kapiti.
