GIG GUIDE - Event Details

Monoceros Ak, Headspins Ak, And Project H

Monoceros Ak, Headspins Ak, And Project H

Tue Feb 7th, 2012

,
Doors open: 9:00 pm
Gig starts: 9pm
Entry: R18

Two of Auckland's most exciting new guitar acts are heading to Wellington for a night of mind-altering audio-visual immersion at Happy.

Monoceros take the notion of organic guitar-and-drum bliss into uncharted territory with pounding tribal percussion, and guitar arrangements which sound like they originated in that narrow area between the atmosphere and outer space itself. Percussionist / vocalist Tom's unique delivery sees the line between whisper and scream increasingly difficult to draw, and the music leaves one feeling at once captivated and at peace.

Headspins take a more full-band approach, with driving dance rhythms and groovy basslines accompanying a barrage of post-rock guitar exploration and experiential spoken-word vocals. Their audiences frequently report the noted trance or dance complex, identified by German psychologists as the simultaneous experience of conflicting compulsions: to both dance euphorically; and also to stand in a trance-like state of musical immersion.

Supporting is Wellington's own solo atmosphericist Project H, whose one-man-band show has recently completed a 4-date outing to Auckland. His jangly, spooky guitar-based songs and spoken-word pieces have been guiding audiences into dream-filled sleep since 2010, and his debut EP is due for release shortly.

To complete the magic, visuals are being provided by Auckland's video-magicians Light Benders.

This is a free event, so invite your friends and join us for a night of exciting new music which you might not hear again in Wellington for a little while.
