Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra - Adult Ukulele Workshop
Thu Mar 1st, 2012
Doors open: 7:00 pm
Entry: R16
Come along to a madcap, friendly, totally am-dram yet utterly professional group workshop lead by members of The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra.
Some of the topics that will be covered in our 90 minute workshop: pick vs fingers, playing a melody (for those who are ready), accents and strumming patterns, bar chords, arranging parts in an ensemble (vocal and musical), and tips on how to start your own uke group. You may even get to see the triple strum in action.
This workshop is ideal for ages 16 and up. It is designed for adults who are already involved in – or thinking of starting – a ukulele group, or who play on their own and want a lesson in a group environment. School ukulele teachers will also find it useful. Whether you’re a beginner (i.e. you know C, F and G but not much more) or you consider yourself advanced, we’ll have activities for both ends of the scale.
Ideally you should be able to play at least 5 or 6 chords (including E) and be able to play a few songs on the ukulele (ie be able to strum in time with others, and change chords in time). Come prepared to be challenged mentally and musically!
Requirements:
- Your own ukulele. This must be in tune before the class starts (but we can help you tune up if necessary).
- Knowledge of at least 5 or 6 chords (including E)
- Ability to change between chords & strum in time with others
- None of the above but you love a challenge and you’re a quick learner.
