THE ROCKABILLY SHAKEOUT!!! : Sat. Feb. 23rd The Loons, 8pm.
French rockabilly master Phil Riza, with Marjorie Perla, and Christchurch's own Cry Baby Jo are bringing to The Loons a night of hot swingin', old school rockabilly.
Phil Riza, currently on a world tour with country singin' partner Marjorie Perla, is ready to take his own blend of 50's Rock A Beatin Boogie to Christchurch audiences. Known for his authentic finger-pickin' guitar style influenced by such greats as Merle Travis, Carl Perkins and particularly Scotty Moore, Phil will shake, rattle and roll his way through his repertoire of upbeat classics. Artists such as Eddie Cochran, Johnny Burnette, Bo Diddly, Ricky Nelson and of course Elvis are all given the stylish Phil Riza high energy treatment in a set that is guaranteed to keep the dance floor swingin'. Supported by a backline of local musicians including Cry Baby Jo's Nick Lahey smackin' skins, the beat will be unstoppable!!!
Local rockabilly favourites Cry Baby Jo will be kickin' off the night featuring the true Americana vocal stylings of JoJo. Her raunchy renditions of Wanda Jackson, Josie Kruezer and even Johnny Cash classics, and original works, will have the crowd jumpin' while P.J.Sparkabilly rocks out the standards. It will also be the last gig that guitar maestro Paul Fontana will be playing with the band before heading to Viva Las Vegas in March.
Dress is 50's rockabilly so slick back that hair, slip on the stove pipes, hitch up those petticoats, get that dance card checked and be prepared to swing your thang to that rockabilly beat!!!
Doors open at 8pm. $10 entry
