The VBC (88.3fm) and Palomino Agency present…

I HEART HIROSHIMA

Formed in 2005 at a house party, I Heart Hiroshima have seized the brains of many, on both sides of the ditch, with their shattered-abstract pop and have built up quite a reputation as a ‘go-to’ band in the process; performances with Deerhoof, Broken Social Scene, Calvin Johnson, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Erase Errata… tours with Ratatat, The Rogers Sisters, The Grates, Peaches & Herms all attributable to that reputation.

Having scorched their way across the gap between ’them’ and ’us’ with an explosive debut visit to Auckland on April 30 this year at the Kings Arms with friends RATATAT, they return to pay their respects to the capital.

The two guitars and drums three-piece, hailing from Brisbane, have released three ep’s; the touchpaper pre-empting an incendiary debut album (TUFF TEEF) they released late last year, and have made it thus far with syncopated, volatile synchronicity.

“We all write our own parts, like whatever we do, we write it” Cameron (guitar) explains, “We don’t have any plans to get a bass player, I like the bass, but it’s just easier this way, bass amps are kind of heavy, and we’re just kind of weak”.

Their songs are bright, generally cheery; they cross each others firing lines with sparse arrangements of inter-twining melodies and harmonies that are deliciously captivating, all the while contrasting.

They posses a care-free attitude that can have them saunter on to the stage, fiddle around a bit, start with no sort of introduction and progress through their set like they were just hanging out in front of your house on a summers evening, albeit ready to enter in to and plunder.
