GIMME INDIE ROCK!!! GIMME INDIE ROCK!!!
This Saturday night MarineVille & The Huhu bury your election hangover in an indie rock-fest of COUP-LIKE prescience.
Formerly old-school but - as of last Saturday - now embraced as SEERS!!! of a prescient future MarineVille and The Huhu mine the seeds of 70s, 80s and 90s discontent in a SWIRLING VEIL of URBAN SONGCRAFT!
LISTEN! to the lyrics ... torn from the pages of a young proletariats diary!
FEEL! the sound of REAL MIDDLE CLASS PROTEST!!!
DRINK! to mask your CATHOLIC ANGST!
EMBRACE! a stranger!
WAKE UP! with someone you dont know!
EXCHANGE phone numbers!
REPEAT!
REPEAT!
REPEAT!
MarineVille are currently listening to: DNA, Gordon Lightfoot and German progressive rock. They will soon finish their 3rd album, or else. Their music ranges from pastoral melody to blitzkrieg guitar and they remain the progeny of New York new-wave and 1960s song-writing.
The Huhu are Brett Garrity (Vocals, bass), Craig Houghton (Guitar, vocals), and Simon Waterfield (drums, other sounds). They describe their approach as dynamic, but minimal: their spacious sound recalls acts like Galaxie 500, Low, Bedhead, Bailter Space and The For Carnation. Their first e.p. Greeting From Vogeltown West (which was a cd disguised as a 7", and involved some nifty screen printing) has all but sold out of its very limited run. They will release a full length sometime later in 2009. Its been a busy year for the Huhu, who are normally not so hot at getting things done quickly. Theyve played more than their usual 2 gigs a year, have been working on the aforementioned e.p., writing new material, and making a video.
