Richard Hammond is one of New York’s most in demand bass players and has performed and recorded with a broad array of world class artists across a wide range of musical genres. Originally from Dargaville, Richard won a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston where he spent countless hours practising, playing and honing his skills. After Berkee he moved to NYC where he attained his Master's Degree from the Manhattan School of Music and from there has established himself in New York as a first call bassist on both electric and acoustic bass.
Some of the artists Richard has performed or recorded with include such diverse names as Carlos Santana, Bono and The Edge from U2, Lin Manuel Miranda, Nena, Patti Austin, Raul Midon, Diane Reeves, Luciana Souza, Trilock Gurtu, Angelique Kidjo, , Manhattan Transfer, Lizz Wright, Steve Martin, Mose Allison and many more. He has been a member of the Grammy Award and multi-Tony Award production of Hamilton and has performed at venues all around the globe from Stadium tours in the States to outdoor festivals in Europe to at the White House for President Obama! You may have already seen Richard perform on such shows as Letterman and the Today and Tonight shows or listened to his bass playing on scores for blockbuster films such as The Incredibles 2, American Made, American Gangster or Taking Woodstock. Richard is also active as a composer and producer and has been featured in Bass Player Magazine.
As one of the original members of Nathan Haines’ album Shift Left, Richard is back in Auckland to play the 25th Anniversary Concert at The Civic Theatre.
After a standing room only show for CJC in 2018, Richard is returning with a new set of music and featuring tunes by New York and New Zealand composers, and featuring some of Auckland’s finest musicians.
