Australian Bushfire Benefit Concert!

One of New Zealand’s most promising bands, Tahuna Breaks, will be headlining a benefit concert to raise funds for the recent Australian bushfires at Kings Arms Tavern in Newton, Auckland on the first of March.
Other local acts that have come together for this cause include Liquid Colours, Atsushi and the Moisties, Phil Edwards Band, Black Sand Diva, This Paper City, KGB Allstars, and Flatland.
“Many of us know of someone who’s lost their homes or a loved one. [The bushfire] seemed to have affected everyone,” says concert organiser and Australian, Damon Key. “I wish I could go home to Australia to help then thought I could do something from here.”
“We wanted to make a difference for people who lost so much in the bush fires.”
A saxophonist in bands The Moisties and KGB Allstars, as well as a gifted teacher and music educator, Damon was overwhelmed by the support given by the industry as all bands, backline gear, venue, right down to sound technicians and even radio stations are chipping in their time for free.
“The [Australians] have suffered terribly and we are glad to be doing our bit to help,” says Tim Baker, synthesizer and trumpet player of Tahuna Breaks. “When asked if we could do the show we were more than happy to help out.”
Tickets are $15 at the door with all proceeds going to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009 and Victorian Country Fire Authority (CFA) Public Fund.
Damon aims at having more than 500 guests at the Australian Bushfire Benefit Concert starting at 2pm until 11.30pm, and raise $10,000 by the end of the evening.
