Tami Neilson: The Kitchen Table Sessions
Thu May 7th, 2009
Doors open: 8:00 pm
Entry: R18
Cover charge: $10.00
With a great line-up of special guests including "The Heartlys" and Marian Burns, Tami Neilson will have an ensemble of guitar pickers, banjo players, mandolin strummers and fiddlers all sitting around the kitchen table, swapping songs and stories! Come out and enjoy an intimate acoustic experience of indie-folk/alt-country music.
TRULY TOP SHELF….Tami Neilson has the looks and the voice to get any song across to any audience…” -Randy Bachman of "THE GUESS WHO"
She was raised in Canada, by parents with a closet full of sequined stage costumes and platform shoes. She grew up in a house where amplifiers and guitar cases were just as much a part of the furniture as chairs and tables, and when most kids are still singing nursery rhymes in the bathtub, she was travelling across North America in a 34 foot motor home, performing professionally in their family band (No, no- not the Partridge Family- next guess…) The Neilsons, sharing the stage with the likes of Johnny Cash.
Then she met a Kiwi boy that caused her heart to flutter and her feet to move to the other side of the world where she has performed on TVNZ (Good Morning Show and as Amy Winehouse on Stars in Their Eyes), toured extensively and most recently can be heard singing her rendition of Nina Simones "Feeling Good" on The Warehouse ad campaign.
Her music buzzes with raw energy and talent, a hybrid of big-voice torch and stripped bare, indie folk/ alt-country. From haunting ballads of heartbreak and irony to foot-stomping, hand-clapping, harmony-infused numbers, her live performance is one to be remembered!
