BrazilBeat Sound System joins The Retainers & Dub Asylum for a night of funk, afrobeat and dub.
Brazil Beat Sound System
: Formed in San Fransisco in 2000. Live druming, DJ collective. Members include Brazilian percussionist Negro Beto and DJ Mara. Negro Beto has been producing and teaching for over 20 years, on five continents. Has toured with The wailers, the OE:Brazil project. Worked for MTV Brazil. The BBS sound is a mash up of funk, house, breaks, dub, roots, dnb. Have released tracks on compilations in the US, Brazil, Japan, New Zealand; their debut album "Nova" came out in Nov 2007.
The Retainers
: Cousins Christian McLay & Jeremy Hunt have been making music together since 2000. Chris has worked with Rhombus, Commodores member Ronald LePread, Kaya, N.T.D. Jeremy has been playing in bands and producing for over ten years. DJ Chris Marley and drummer/percussionist Ollie Philpott add Caribbean and catalan roots flavours.
Peter Mac
: Auckland-based DJ, producer, director, writer. Regular show host on Base FM. Produces under the name Dub Asylum. Member of the Bassteppa Sound System. Has supported Salmonella Dub, The Nomad, The Black Seeds. Former member of 90s punk-ska band the Hallelujah Picassos.
