The Auckland Jazz Orchestra, performing with renowned songstress Caitlin Smith, head West of the Moon to celebrate the release of their newest album East of The Sun at Titirangi Theatre.
Featuring original contemporary arrangements of jazz standards, with stunning vocal interpretations, the band breathes fresh life into some well-loved tunes, as well as Caitlin’s original Prayer for a Miracle, and the Auckland Harbour Suite by Mike Booth.
As a singer, songwriter, performer & poet, Caitlin Smith is beloved by audiences, and has been a mainstay of the music scene both in front of the mic, and as a vocal coach behind many of the voices you hear in NZ pop. She is fresh off a trip to Seattle where she performed as a guest with contemporary jazz legends Ari Hoenig and Matt Pennman.
A full 17 piece contemporary jazz big band ensemble, comprising seasoned professionals and recent graduates, The Auckland Jazz Orchestra have been performing works by NZ composers and arrangers for more than a decade. Under the musical direction of founders Tim Atkinson and Mike Booth, East of the Sun is their 3rd album.
East of The Sun is the latest step in Caitlin & The AJO’s journey together. Recorded in 2019, the band have been eagerly waiting to get out and perform this material for you. We hope you’ll join them for this special night.
