Bio:
Hailing from the bright lights of Auckland City, Drivetown is a dynamic four-piece rock band with a live reputation as big as the sound they produce. Drawing influence from a broad and sometimes obscure range of sounds - from Industrial Metal to Brit-pop - Drivetown make music that is at once catchy and likeable, but aggressive and penetrating at the same time.

> > > > Drivetown was formed in April 2007 under the name ‘Afratone’, after drummer James Porteous and singer/guitarist Konrad Kurta met during an electrical storm. Another chance encounter with bassist Sam Comery resulted in a fluke musical connection that was to produce one of the most committed and passionate live bands in New Zealand.

> > > > With their second and third ever live performances, Afratone won the AUT Battle of the Bands in late 2007. Dozens of hard-hitting live performances soon followed, with the band being booked for numerous orientation performances around New Zealand in 2008, coinciding with a limited release mini-album titled ‘Lights and Shades’, and a shoestring budget video for the song ‘Disappear’ that received rotation on Alt TV and Juice TV.

> > > Fast forward to May 2008, and John Faulding – cousin of Sam Comery – became the band’s fourth permanent member, taking up residence on keys, guitar and backing vocals. During the rest of 2008, supporting the likes of Deja Voodoo, The Electric Confectionaires, and Pluto, the band gigged frequently, and spent countless hours practising and writing at their second home – ‘Drivetown’ in suburban Auckland – over this period.

> > > 2009 started with a bang, Drivetown sharing the stage, with New Zealand music heavyweights The Mint Chicks and Shihad at a huge outdoor venue in Auckland\s AUT. The band sported an even heavier sound and a new name that reflected both their second home and the nature of the car-clogged urban sprawl they lived in - Drivetown.

> > > Aiming to transfer their explosive live presence to the airwwaves, the band has released their first single ‘This Day, Four Years’, an alt-rock ballad constructed around the idea of breaking the monotony of life. Drivetown have also begun pre-production on a Long Player aimed for release in late 2009.

> > > > The next year will see Drivetown throw themselves headlong into a music industry that may not know who they are, but will have definitely heard them coming. With youth, motivation and talent to burn, Drivetown look set not so much to open the door to national recognition as kick it clean off its hinges.
