The Eastern bring backpacks full of road songs, foot stomps and heart. They play like they mean it, like its all they know how to do. They care about the songs, the show and the folks they meet along the way. Whether punching alone as a two piece or letting their strings and voices roar with their seven piece, The Eastern always come out swinging and promise to throw down with heart and guts. Theyd have no business showing up and doing otherwise!
With over two hundred shows a year and no sign of quitting, The Eastern have played all over New Zealand and parts beyond from Nashville to Sydney, by way of Mississippi street corners through British bar rooms and Southland sheds.
Support slots and tours with Steve Earle, Old Crow Medicine Show, the Jayhawks, Jon Doe, Jim White, Victoria Williams and Vic Chestnut. Theyve had a top ten debut album in the NZ indie charts, National Radio sessions and a lot of summer touring around new Zealand and the States. And more touring, another album and a swagger of singouts await.
The Eastern bring the whole family out to the folk club this July. Mainstays Adam McGrath (guitar, singin) and Jess Shanks (Banjo, guitar, lonesomeness) are joined by Ragamuffin Child, Anita Clarke (fiddle), Jono Hopley, ex-Black Velvet Band and current Wolverine (bass) and the close harmony heartbreakers of Miss Hanna Harding and Miss Hadassah Green (vocals).
