Born in Guyana and raised in Brooklyn NYC, Jahdan Blakkamoore is an innovator of the music world, bringing together reggae, hip-hop, jungle and dubstep and creating a sound uniquely his own.
In 2009 Blakkamoore released the hit single ‘The General’, followed by his debut solo album, ‘Buzzrock Warrior’, after months of listening to hip-hop, dancehall, cumbia, dubstep, and R&B, developing his own sound, and then honing material through the New York club circuit. The album was voted ‘Best Reggae Album of the year’ on iTunes. In 2010 he followed up with his second album, ‘Babylon Nightmare’ and in 2011, Lustre Kings and Liondub released the first remix EP taken from ‘Babylon Nightmare’. In 2012 he has been a contributing writer on the new album by Snoop Dogg AKA Snoop Lion.
Not only a solo artist, Jahdan is also part of the group ‘Noble Society’, who have been acclaimed as ‘kings of urban reggae’. Consisting of around 12 musicians internationally, in October 2011 they released their latest album, ‘PPM – Powerful Painful Music’, a mix of hip-hop and dancehall with dubstep beats and flamenco melodies.
His collaborations have been second to none, and in reggae and roots scenes Jahdan has worked with top artists such as Lutan Fyah and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. ‘Cash Flow’, his release with Diplo and Switch on their groundbreaking ‘Major Lazer’ project, was hailed as the standout track of the album.
In hip-hop circles, he has recorded with stalwarts like DJ Premier, Afu Ra, Boot Camp Click and Dead Prez. Jahdan’s feature on the hook and verse of the Smif-n-Wesson classic, ‘Sound Bwoy Bureill’, which was released in 1995, is still played regularly in clubs and on radio around the world.
Jahdan is renowned for delivering powerful and commanding stage shows, which he has delivered around the world, ranging from America to Argentina, Poland to Prague.
He says, ‘People can expect a very exciting and rhythmic show where the vibes change from reggae to dubstep to dancehall within minutes of the show starting…the audience will get special treats and throwbacks from my past songs that they might not have known I sang…it’s Blakkamoore so expect the unexpected! I cannot wait to perform for audiences in New Zealand and Australia’.
