Flying Nun are thrilled to announce that NZ’s compelling psych/post-punk trio Mermaidens will be touring New Zealand off the back of their second single ‘Satsuma’, out Friday 19th May. The band will venture to Christchurch and Dunedin for the second time, as well as playing two shows in Auckland, before finishing off the tour in their stomping ground of Wellington.
Mermaidens are renowned for their intricate and unique songwriting, boldly raw but increasingly refined studio production, and a hypnotic live synergy that leaves audiences enchanted. Their sound offers a mesmerising dip into the realms of post-punk and psych, while the voices of Gussie Larkin and Lily West embrace warm harmonies and dreamy, hypnotic lyrics, entwined with dark and moody riff-based melodies, underpinned by Abe Hollingsworth's fluid and dynamic percussion. Their debut album Undergrowth, released in 2016 on Flying Out.
Mermaidens aren’t ones to waste time - the band are on the cusp of revealing their latest body of work, LP Perfect Body, due out on 4th of August, via Flying Nun. The band offered a glimpse back in April with the single ‘Lizard’ debuting with UK’s Clash Music. ‘Lizard’ is dynamic and hypnotising, with layers of distorted guitars underpinning the choruses catchy hook. Mermaidens’ follow up single ‘Satsuma’ is set to be released on Friday 26th May, supported by a self-directed music video involving a feast for the senses; from bubble baths and broken nails to the oranges that are the song’s namesake.
