Gig Information

Since relocating from Auckland to Sydney in late 2011, double bassist Tom Botting has quickly forged a path into the Australian jazz scene. His impressive abilities as a sideman and bassist have led to performances with jazz luminaries as diverse as James Muller, Roger Manins, Dale Barlow, Walter Smith III, Mike Nock, Tim Firth, Carl Morgan, Scott Tinkler, Jamie Oehlers, Steve Barry, Antipodes, and The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra. Tom placed third in the 2015 National Jazz Awards at Wangaratta Jazz Festival and is currently a PhD candidate at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Recent highlights include a tour to South Korea with Wellington’s own The Jac, recording and releasing albums with The Earshift Orchestra and metal-jazz group Scoredatura, and recording a solo double bass album to be released later 2018.

This performance will centre around Tom’s original compositions, born out of increasing homesickness and a love of jazz and indie rock. Expect rhythmic complexity, bombastic dynamics and soaring melodies. The band will be comprised of some of Wellington’s finest (and some of Tom’s favourite people in the world):

Jake Baxendale | Saxophone
Callum Allardice | Guitar
Ayrton Foote | Keys
Shaun Anderson | Drums

Don’t miss out on catching Tom on a rare jaunt to Wellington!
