Genre-binding beautiful, lyrical and nuanced
music that moves freely and organically along
the spectrum of jazz, both American and
European, as well as folk music and classical
music, without subscribing fully to any genre
but embracing it all”.

Eyal Hareuveni, All About Jazz, USA

Katya Sourikova was raised in St Petersburg and London, and has always had a diverse musical and cultural background. After training as a classical pianist at the prestigious Guildhall School and then the Royal College of Music, she began a long exploration of Jazz, finding a her musical voice somewhere between these two worlds both as a composer and improviser.

Katya made her first recordings around 2005, with Canadian musicians Ivan Bamford and Remi-Jean leBlanc, with debut performances at the Baku International Jazz Festival alongside heavyweights such as Joe Zawinul and Greg Osby. She was later mentored by Dave Douglas and Marilyn Crispell who helped her focus her creative energies resulting in two albums, Steps in the Snow and Angels & Satellites - recorded in New York in 2008 and 2010.

Her 3rd album, Ivan’s Dream, was recorded in Berlin, where Katya has been based since 2009. This received critical acclaim, with the Katya Sourikova Group performing at the London Jazz festival in 2011.

From 2012, Katya began to rearrange many compositions for chamber music ensembles, bringing her journey from her classical roots and through the jazz idiom full circle. This has resulted in two new live projects, Queen Maud Land for Chamber ensemble and Jazz Quartet, and Casa Mila for Piano and Cello duet. Her 4th Album Queen Maud Land (2016) resulted in further chamber projects including sold out concerts in Riga, Latvia in January 2017 and 2018.

In recent years, Katya has found considerable demand as a film composer. Her soundtrack to the movie Beekeepers of Kythera has won the Best Original score at Tropfest 2017, the biggest short film festival in the world. Katya is currently working on the score to the new feature film by James Prineas - An Island Named Desire.
