A genre defying songwriter and songstress of alt-country, jazz, soul and blues, Catherine Tunks is known as NZ's Black Sand Diva, and has been touring her band of the same name around the globe for the best part of a decade with their unique 'South Pacific Jazz'. Cat's mixed Maori/Irish heritage is fused with many musical influences. With two previous albums and a nomination for a Waiata Maori Music Award in her pocket, her love of country music and blues of the American South have led her to create “The Beautiful Dreamers EP” - a journey through 'Southern Gothic country, lush meadows and voodoo blues'. The album’s international success took her to Nashville, Ireland & Germany in 2017, and gained a semi-finalist nomination in the International Songwriting Awards for the song 'Thursday Morning'.
Performing a rare semi-acoustic concert here at the Pah, Catherine's music will lead the audience on a road trip through the rich sounds of the American South with gritty lap steel, seductive vocals and spell binding acoustic guitars, with songs that linger with you long after.
The concert will start at 5.30pm. You are invited to browse the galleries or enjoy a drink at Homestead Eatery before the concert.
