Gig Information

A personal pick by Jeff Tweedy/Wilco as support act, standing ovations at the Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival and having had Joe Strummer write a song about him (true story), Stretch is a songwriter who lies outside the usual NZ music industry scenes.

His bittersweet blend of country, soul, folk and rock’n’roll comes from a life down roads less travelled. From dark-hearted ballads to roof-raising choruses, his music is alive with a rare magic.

These roads led to the exceptional debut album, ‘Bury All Horses’ which had reviewers citing Ryan Adams, Springsteen and The Veils as sonic touchstones. Songs such as the blazing opener ‘Less Rock More Roll’ and ‘6 Tears’ with its boozy swagger, alternate with raw poetic ballads such as ‘Nothing Can Hurt You’.

Joining him for this show is the incredible cellist Paula Sugden, playing her 300-year-old French cello. The room will resound to the acoustics of these two master musicians. Their chemistry is something special to witness and the intimacy of the Kumeu Live stage, will be a perfect setting.

Stretch's constant touring has built a reputation as a vital live act. He holds that uncommon ability to enthral a room, ‘alone his songs reverberate with multi-layers and facets, a one-man-band who makes magic happen’ - The Hook.

His straight from the heart style saw an acclaimed show at the Southern Fork Americana Festival: ‘Stretch had the crowd’s attention from the get-go, simply from the force of his powerful performance, another triumphant night' - 13th Floor and most recently, a sold-out concert at Church Road Winery!

With a voice that can’t help being soulful and a desire to connect with every listener, Stretch is finding his audience the old-fashioned way, one true music lover at a time.
