Sister Rosa is a bright new light on the local DJ scene. As a kid, Rosa was exposed to a wealth of sweet soul music via a circle of strong DJ-cultured family and friends. Things kicked into gear when Rosa inherited a few crates of hot 12s and started playing, spinning them at private parties. A huge part of Rosa’s inspiration lies in the joy of playing cool music to people and through her contribution as a female DJ. Rosa has always been very passionate about women having a voice behind the turntables. With that said, Rose felt it was her time to get out there, go public with her vinyl collection and and start to make her mark.
Her DJ name Sister Rosa was taken from freedom fighter Sister Rosa Parks whom Rosa’s Mum named her after. As part of the Cross Street Market DJ programme, Rosa has spun regular sets there to very enthusiastic crowds who adore her selections. Sister Rosa’s sets include vintage soul, funk, & classic hip-hop selections. Always tasteful, always with a funky groove and delivered with a smile!
