Dangerous! is the third album produced by Dunedin band Both Sides of the Line. The album’s vibe is 60’s pop with a surf and rockabilly edge.
Formed in 2009, the band has developed through country-rockabilly to retro-pop still retaining the rockabilly influence important to songwriters John Sule and Glenda Rogers. The name of the band was taken from a song sung by Wanda Jackson - Queen of Rockabilly. The band released their first EP, 5, in August, 2012. This was followed by a full-length album, Sideshow in 2013 and Party Line! in September, 2016. These have received favourable reviews from the NZ Musician magazine, the Otago Daily Times and muzic.net.nz. The albums were recorded and mastered at Arthouse Media in Dunedin by Paul Sammes, and mixed by Phil Rogers at Downstairs Studio. They are available to buy at CDBaby, https://www.cdbaby.com
Both Sides of the Line have mostly played in and around Dunedin and the lower South Island so they are excited to be taking their music to Wellington in September. John Sule, song-writing guitarist, has family connections with Wellington and played bass for The Cattlebirds in the 1980s. The gig at Caroline, in Manners Street, on 7th September will feature Wellingtonian song-writer and mentor, Charlotte Yates (When the Cat’s been Spayed) and The Wooden Box Band, also from Wellington.
At Caroline you can expect an exquisite starter of solo, original songs by the inimitable Charlotte Yates, followed by a delicious entrée of warm country-folk music of the Wooden Box Band, and rounded off with the electric sounds of Both Sides of the Line.
