Taranaki alt-rock band Bittercup returns to Lucky Bar + Kitchen - Whanganui for round two with support from Emily Riordan! Further special guest to be announced.
BITTERCUP
Bittercup is intense, dark, and unpleasant. Like a good coffee. It is the personal catharsis machine of Callum Wagstaff. He hates himself and has found people enjoy the fruits of his shameful confessions, related in sweet serenades, fervid outbursts, and rarely anything in between.
Bittercup released an official debut EP: “Negative Space” on May 3rd 2019. Negative Space was described by Happy Mag as “a bleak but undeniably endearing collection of alt-rock gems.” Bittercup then embarked on an acoustic tour of the north island with fellow artist and producer of the Negative Space EP, Emily Riordan, bringing the bleakness to the masses in shows sporting mannequins, gas masks and various awkward costumes.
The release of Bittercup's new single Napkin heralds the transition from a frenetic solo effort to a sardonic, chaotic, and times erotic three-piece indie rock experience. Drawing inspiration from Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, and Placebo, the Bittercup experience will continue to be a beautiful car crash that is hard to look away from.
EMILY RIORDAN
Emily Riordan plays dreamy, melancholic soft pop influenced by her background in classical piano and singing, with a twist of Lana Del Rey. Following the release of her EP Waves, a trip hop/trap collaboration with Wellington producer Shxshi, Riordan returns to her more acoustic roots with a collection of fantasy inspired songs
