The soul doctors are back and are bringing the party to Meow in celebration of the release of their 2nd single Kererū. Following their debut single ‘Advocate’, the 7 piece supergroup are staying true to their roots and inspirations from Aotearoa’s multitude of dub and reggae, while their own unique psychedelic tonic explorations make the track fresh with life.
Exploring messages of hope, reconnecting/tuning into to the earth (ourselves), mental health, & healing, a song inspired by the native birds of our sacred land, Julia Cooper (co-lead singer) lifts us up & carries us away with her ethereal voice & soulful, enchanting lyricism. Big sister Sophie Cooper (co-lead singer/bass) and soul brother Jeremy Richardson (backing vocals/drums) complete the vocal sound with their sweet harmonies. Ben Stewart (keys) and Jules Blewman (guitar) complete the rhythm section, and Eilish Wilson (saxophone), & Helpful Hayden Richardson (trumpet) are the icing on this most delicious cake.
Also to be released at the event - Dr. Reknaws first music video! Filmed, directed and produced by legendary videographer Lee Gingold, this is an extremely special piece of work, with visuals just as breathtaking and beautiful as the audio.
The single was mixed & produced by local sound guru Toby Lloyd, with some tracking done with various other local gems; Warwick Donald & Raw Deazy.
The Dr’s will celebrate with an epic throw down of their original music, a set that intertwines dub, reggae, soul, hip-hop, funk and jazz. New songs never been played will be brought to life & set alight , with a feminine fire fuelled with passion, excitement and love for the musical operation that we will all be embarking on together at Meow, Nov 15.
