UPDATED 2/3: Newtown Festival 2021 postponed to Sunday 11 April

UPDATED 28/02: Newtown Festival 2021 will not go ahead on Sunday 7 March

Kia ora folks
Well, we’ve talked to a lot of people this morning - from our MPs, the MoH to our key festival organisers - and we’ve made the difficult decision to not run the Newtown Festival on Sunday 7 March. Looking after our community is core to our kaupapa and here at HQ we feel this is the best decision for all involved, despite being disappointing to many.
We’re looking at April 11th as a potential postponement date so go ahead and save the date. We do need a couple of days to work out if a postponement is feasible for our artists, stallholders and infrastructure providers so we will confirm either way this week.
We’ll be getting in touch with our stallholders and performers today to confirm that this Sunday is off and discuss options.
From the bottom of our hearts, we’re really sorry for everyone who has been working so hard towards this and those looking forward to Sunday. We’re really gutted too. We’ll be in touch.
Arohanui,
The Newtown Festival crew

Aotearoa's biggest free music festival and street fair! The stunning event returns to the beloved suburb of Newtown on Sunday 8 March 2021. Enjoy over 150 acts and 400 stalls in celebration of one of Wellington's most exciting and colourful communities.

There are free activities for the family, including a balance bike course, skating, a ferris wheel, and more! Entertainment keeps you going throughout the day from dancers, buskers, circus performers, and musicians across so many stages playing anything from heavy riffs to pop bangers to crooning to some of the most exciting artists around to keep an eye on. Well-loved headliners mingle with up-and-coming talent. Outdoor cafes, craft beer precincts, local businesses, and stalls selling all sorts of arts, crafts, treasure, and the best range of international food to be found anywhere!

Newtown Festival presents fourteen stages across its site, dotted across Riddiford Street and side streets. Our biggest acts are coming to the Tangata Whenua Stage (hospital end of Riddiford Street) and the South Stage (zoo end of Riddiford Street). The stages in the side streets offer niche insights into the thriving local music communities, with much emerging brilliance to be discovered. Local venues Bebemos, Monterey/Newtown Social Club, Black Coffee, Baobab, and Moon, continue the party into the evening.

Bring a hat, sunblock, water, reusable tupperware and keepcup, cash, hand sanitiser and a good vibe!
