A little bit naughty, a whole lot heartfelt, and pretty dang fun, his songs have been called hilarious, beautiful and tragically sad at the same time. The Dauphin of Mississippi first played the Globe on his 'North Island Charm Offensive' tour with songwriting legend Dave Dondero two years ago. The next day he flew to Nashville to record an album that features the likes of 14-time Grammy-winner Dan Tyminski (Oh Brother, Union Station) and other current and future Nashville legends. Now he's coming back as part of his New Zealand Bucket list tour, the first tour promoting The Book of Vanities, 10 heartbreaking and hilarious tales of ego and self from those sessions.
He'll be accompanied by New Zealand's Dave Rawlings, multi-instrumental virtuoso Dusty Burnell (Frank Burkitt Band, T-Bone Trio) and the brilliant and crafty Itallian Dr. Giocomo Giorli (The Infamous Bourbon Boys, The Melling Station Boys) from the hills Tuscany by way of Hawaii. With backing vocals from madame Claire Ellen Lukens.
And he's also bringing another of his favorite songwriters along, the charming and hilarious Lost BiRD (Ali Whitton) of Wellington, via the U.K. You may have read about him for opening Ed Sheeran's stadium gigs in Auckland of from any number of terrific RNZ performances. He's truly one of the most earnest and charming songwriters we've ever heard (and occasionally naughty).
Our plan is to make you laugh, ache, smolder, fall in love, recoil in horror, sing in public and miss everyone you've ever loved, and for these few moments we are together, to feel a part of something bigger than ourselves. Bucketlist Item: Meet new friends. My original NZ bucketlist before moving here 3 years ago simply said Meet new friends, write a lot of songs, see some stuff, and mess with former Prime Minister Bill English (My New Neighbor!) I did all that within my first couple months. And Denise and the great folks at the Globe were some of those new friends who said to come on back. I said I would. Now it's come time for leaving NZ(heading to California) and I hope to see you guys again. Plus, your beautiful country has given me so many songs, I'd like to share some back with you face to face. At least let you vet some of the things I'll be telling the world about you.
