In association with Ivan Lupi’s installation/performance project, Not As Simple As It Sounds, The Audio Foundation is pleased to present a new work, 'stumbling blocks / berlin resonances', for suspended triangles and other instruments by composer, Johnny Chang.
Drawing upon the Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) project honouring holocaust victims throughout European cities, “stumbling” here refers back to the act of walking as one discovers the stumbling blocks around the city, and a momentary surfacing of history in everyday life. Johnny Chang is a composer and performer closely associated with the Wandelweiser composers’ collective. His work engages in extended explorations surrounding the relationships of sound/listening and the in-between areas of improvisation, composition and performance.
AF is also seeking participants to work alongside composer Johnny Chang on this composition. Prior musical training or experience is not a requirement and Johnny looks forward to working with people of all ages and abilities. A rehearsal on 12 February is being arranged in addition a practise on the evening on Saturday 13 February ahead of the performance.
