Gig Information

Hamiltonians, Kokomo was due to perform for Hamilton Blues Society at Biddy's in September concert which had to be postponed because of COVID-19. So this is the second crack at it. Sunday 7 November from 2pm, and now with support bands The Dirty Tones (Auckland), and Showdown. Fingers crossed. Kokomo haven't played live since August and are raring to go!

There are no advance ticket sales - door charge applies, child friendly, maybe a raffle or two on the day so bring some extra cash, merchandise available. Please remember that the concert is open to all, HBS members (and members of affiliated Clubs/Societies) receive a discount at the door.

A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT KOKOMO...

Hailing from the sunny Bay Of Plenty, blues 'n' roots band Kokomo (originally “Kokomo Blues”) has been together now since the 1990s, and has become renowned for dynamic live shows and smart distinctive song-writing.

Over the years Kokomo has toured extensively throughout New Zealand, performing at the country’s major rock, blues, jazz and folk festivals. Between touring the band has released twelve albums and a live concert DVD. The first two were collections of traditional blues, while subsequent albums predominantly feature the band’s own blues-based songs.

2019 saw the release of Sunset Claws, Kokomo's 13th album which the band debuted at the 57th National Jazz Festival. A tour followed the official launch in June. In 2020 and 2021 the band released a series of blues singles, which can be found on Spotify and other digital platforms. The band will be releasing a special 30th anniversary album in November 2021.

Along the way Radio New Zealand has recorded five programmes focusing on Kokomo’s music, and they have appeared from time to time on various TV channels. Kokomo’s music has also been used as the soundtrack for projects as diverse as TV gardening shows and surfing videos and programmes such as Shortland Street.

They have also played with and supported a number of overseas blues and jazz acts, including Georgie Fame, Richard O'Brien, Doug McLeod, Keb Mo, Buddy Guy, “Mississippi Willie Foster”, The LeRoi Brothers, Hans Theessink, New Orleans singer Lillian Boutte, Hawaiian steel wizard Ken Emerson, and legendary guitarist Amos Garrett (Butterfield Blues Band).

On the local front they have performed and toured with the likes of Roy Phillips (Peddlers), Hammond Gamble, Dragon, Jan Preston, Midge Marsden, Shona Laing, Barry Saunders, Mike Cooper and many others.
