Starts 7:30 pm
It’s summer and some of us have been spending time by the sea. We all live quite close to the sea, Otago Harbour and the great Pacific Ocean. Covering more than 70% of our planet, the sea features in films, books, poems and pieces of music, and in scholarly studies. It sustains us in many different ways.
So, for our first club night of 2022, you are invited to bring along your songs, tunes or poems about the sea. Please prepare two items each but rehearse three in case someone else performs one of yours!
Need some inspiration? The sea, te moana, le mer. Kelpies and selkies, mermaids and old King Neptune himself. The beach, where we swim and surf, dive around the rocks and corals of the octopus’s garden. Oceans, Atlantic, Pacific – migration, privation. Rounding the Cape. Pirates and jolly tars, fishers, whalers and sealers. Davy Jones’ Locker. Safe harbours, treacherous crossings and wrecks. Fishy tales/tails. Seabirds. Albatross. Penguin Great White, beluga, Opo, Stingray. Marina. Aqua Marina!
