Taranaki songwriter, Juliet McLean, is celebrating the release of her stunning EP ‘Amaze Me’, with a seven show solo national tour.
‘Amaze Me’, produced by Ben King (Goldenhorse, Grand Rapids), showcases Juliet’s well crafted song-writing and refined musicianship with intimate minimal production.
“I’m excited to be able to share these new songs as they were written – just me and a keyboard with a story to tell”.
Magical realism is the term Juliet coined to describe the atmosphere she aspires to create with her live shows. Audiences can expect an evening of compelling solo performance that will includes songs from her previous two releases, ‘The Dance’ and ‘Unlash the Boats’.
Juliet was raised and still lives in Taranaki under the steady presence of Te Maunga O Taranaki beside the ever-changing west coast sea - a perfect allegory for the work of this continually evolving, talented artist.
She will be supported Taranaki-born guitarist and singer, Paul Symons.
A 1968 Taranaki farmboy, Paul Symons says he grew up listening to late night AM radio &
learning songs at lunchtime guitar lessons.
He decided to maximize the Blues Style of life by acquiring a vintage Bedford schoolbus and heading off in a never-ending spiral around the South and occasionally the North island, playing pubs, skifields, motorcycle rallies & festivals. Along the way holding down job as oilrig worker, gardener, painter, wharfie, builder, sawmiller and dump truck driver. The ever-expanding tour came to a welcome halt in Auckland in the mid 90s and the housebus was tethered.
Then, as fate would have it, Lott Larsen joined Paul in February 2011 to make the album Shooting Stars album at Wellington’s Braeburn Studio with drummer Des Mallon. Planning underway for getting about a bit more & making some ruckus. Soon as Paul finishes the rebuild on the School bus.
