Video: Shocking Pinks - Nostalgia

Video: Shocking Pinks - Nostalgia

Friday 21st August, 2015 9:30AM

Earlier this month Shocking Pinks  (aka Nick Harte) unveiled a new video for 'It's Hard To Breathe', a track taken from 2004 debut record Dance The Dance Electric which is poised for reissue in October through A Low Hum. Now Harte has unleashed another video from the record, this time a striking yet simple clip for 'Nostalgia', directed by Gemma Syme.

The video centres around the director, who strips down to her underwear to reveal tattooed script on her back reading "knowledge", which she then coats with a thick makeup. She explains: "It’s funny, I first got that awful “knowledge” tattoo around the time I first met Nick in Christchurch. I hated the tattoo along with the city. I’ve come to find peace with all of it though. Changing something I can’t change in to something that I can use. The term knowledge was quite fitting though. And by using the makeup to cover it, it’s trying to beautify it and hide it." She adds that the video is about mistakes, dealing with the past, feminism, finding freedom by forgiving, beauty, the conventions of females in music videos, "and probably some other stuff." Shocking Pinks has two New Zealand shows scheduled for November to mark the re-release of Dance The Dance Electric, head over here for more details.
