The Datsuns Announce Auckland Show + Release New Video

Thursday 4th February, 2016 9:38AM

Geographically divided rock group The Datsuns have announced a special one-off show on home turf. The four piece, which is spread across Wellington, Auckland, Stockholm and London, will be joining together to play a show at the Kings Arms Tavern on for April Fool's Day - the band's first Auckland show since December 2014 - before they head to the capital city to play Homegrown festival.

The group are currently working on their as-yet-untitled seventh album, which will follow on from 2014 record Deep Sleep, speaking of which, a video for 'Claw Machine' has just been unleashed by the group. Directed by Sam Kristofski and shot on expired 16mm film, the clip's story centres on a demonic car that runs on sheep's blood. Here are the show details, and watch the clip for 'Claw Machine' below...

PRESS RELEASE:

THE DATSUNS - KINGS ARMS - FRIDAY 1st APRIL 2016
with BLOODBAGS
tickets from underthefuckingradar

Go to April 1st on your calendar and circle it . The Datsuns are back.

This is not an April Fool's joke. Their Auckland show will be hot on the tail of two Japanese shows in late March.

It's not always easy to get all four of them in the same city (let alone hemisphere!) now they are spread from Wellington, to Auckland, to Stockholm, and to London. This will be their first Auckland show since December 2014. The following day will see them perform for the second time at Wellington's long running Homegrown festival.

The Datsuns are still Dolf on bass and vocals, Christian on lead guitar, Ben on drums, and Phil on guitar. Much like breathing, they rock together. It's what they do.

This summer they've been working on their new and as yet untitled seventh album at Roundhead, a follow up to 2014's excellent Deep Sleep.

... and from that album a new provincial feel video for Claw Machine directed by Sam Kristofski

"I wanted to make something that has a 70's low budget film aesthetic to it, so I used older expired 16mm film and older lenses to give it a timeless look and feel, and shot in a rough amateur style. The story is about a car that is demon possessed and used sheep blood as its main source of fuel."

Joining the Datsuns for the Auckland show will be Bloodbags led by long time garage howler Andrew Tolley on guitar and vocals, Cameron Rowe on other guitar, and the Dirtbag Radio rhythm section of Rapley and Sam.

From Andrew Tolley

"Even after three years of laying down locomotive punk rok slop around the Auckland town traps, BLOODBAGS are still relatively under the radar. Hauled together from well used parts (ex-Shaft/ex-Hasselhoff Experiment/ex-Dirtbags), the well learned bad habits of each member's past are utilised to the same poor end and purpose as before. Why fix a broken thing, when it's that much fun? Yeah same same, 2 guitars, bass and drums, too loud for the crowd, too loud fer the band too, but a habit that's hard to kick. Plenty of stomp, sting and swing, fizz, fuzz and scuzz..."

APRIL 1st - A SUPERSONIC TONIC OF ULTRA BIONIC PROPORTIONS.
