Wellington noise-punk trio Hollywoodfun Downstairs are releasing their album Reactions on LP, and to celebrate they have lined up a handful of shows around the North Island. Hollywoodfun Downstairs ‘Reactions’ LP Release and Release Shows
Vinyl release of Hollywoodfun Downstairs’ 2015 album, ‘Reactions’ on Press Gang Records.

Press Gang Records is pleased to announce the vinyl release of Hollywoodfun Downstairs’ album, Reactions, on Thursday, February 18, 2016.

Reactions is a ‘dazzling display of hyper-kinetic instrumental prowess, with jagged-edged riffs, percussive insanity, and madcap vocals all sweetened by mesmerizing pop hooks’ (Craig Hayes, Six Noises Blog). The songs bring to mind the playful madness of Future of the Left (Wales), the post hardcore/pop crossover of The Blood Brothers (USA), and the angular moments of Hear A Body Tone -era This Night Creeps (NZ). Pressed in Australia by Zenith Records on heavyweight 180g 12” vinyl, Reactions is ten tracks of intense, jagged and bizarre punk. No band in New Zealand makes music like Wellington’s Hollywoodfun Downstairs.

Recorded in Wellington by Mike Gibson at the famous but now defunct Munki Studios and mixed by James Goldsmith, the album was then sent to West West Side Music in New York and was mastered by Alan Douches, whose previous work includes such cult-classics as Converge’s Jane Doe, Dillinger Escape Plan’s Calculating Infinity, and Mastodon’s Leviathan.

Reactions was originally self-released digitally by the band in April 2015, followed by a cassette release in July 2015 on Press Gang Records. The band toured the album throughout NZ and Europe, playing 23 shows across the old continent, including shows with Le Butcherettes (Mexico) in Brussels at the famous Magasin 4 venue, Meat Wave (USA) and Celestial Wolves (Belgium).

2016 is a big year for Hollywoodfun Downstairs. The band was hand-picked to open for the legendary hardcore band Refused (Sweden) in Wellington and they will be returning to Europe twice this year: touring through the continent from March until May, playing 60 dates through 15 countries; and returning in July for the festival circuit.

To celebrate the release of Reactions on LP, the band will be playing release shows in mid-February in Wellington and Hamilton with label mates Love Mess, before heading to Woodcock 2016 in Tauranga. The band has also been confirmed for Hamtown Smakdown, the annual hardcore punk festival held in Hamilton which will be headlined by Australian hardcore punk band, Outright.
