After teasing us with singles 'Amputation' and 'Always Sad' over the last few months, surly Scottish outfit The Jesus and Mary Chain have finally cut loose their first album since 1998's Munki. Produced by Youth (aka Martin Glover of Killing Joke), Damage and Joy picks up where the band left off in late nineties, which according to a recent interview with Jim Reid was exactly the point..

"The only thing that I wanted to do was make it unmistakably Mary Chain – stick the thing on and within about five seconds you would know it was a Mary Chain record.” he told The Scotsman.

Speaking of the decision to work with a producer for the first time in their career, Reid told the paper: “We thought if the shit hits the fan Youth can be the judge. We thought he would be the peacekeeper, the United Nations in this situation. As it turns out, we got on alright. There was no big bust-ups, there was one or two arguments but there was bound to be. It was pretty civilized all in all, for the Mary Chain anyway.”

The 14-song album contains not only new material, but songs written by the Reid brothers during their time apart, and also features a duet titled 'Black And Blues' that sees Sky Ferreira join the fold. Stream the album in full via Spotify below...
