Premiere: Queen Neptune Unveil Pensive New Single 'The Body House' (+ Video)
Intriguing synthpop two-piece Queen Neptune have released compelling new tune 'The Body House' on the coattails of their recent bFM chart-topping single 'The Queen's Speech'. The pulsating audio venture was born of several sources, including a scary personal experience, as bandmember Caoimhe Macfehin told UTR in an email:
"This song came out of a bunch of things, and it’s an attempt to get a particular feeling that’s to do with the way our bodies shape our experiences, and in particular some experiences of living within the female body. In life and in art the female form has been the target for a particular type of domination and violence, and the threat of it can feel pretty constant. That’s what the song and video are trying to get at - the experience of feeling threatened, that fight or flight response that makes your heart stop for just a second while you determine how much danger you’re in. It’s in someone’s living room or at the gas station or in your own house, and there’s a kind of plain-ness to it which can make it hard to trust the urgency of the feeling. There is energy required for the sort of ‘steeling yourself’ which we are all doing all the time, defending our boundaries, and coping when someone has a go at you.
"After a freaky experience earlier this year, it took a while for me to get back to feeling safe, and something that helped was watching Geena Davis in The Long Kiss Goodnight because she is super tough and awesome, so some of that got put in the music too (side note – the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media is worth checking out). The footage from Daughter of Horror was just so excellent in vibe that It became the video."
