Tom Petty Leader of The Heartbreakers Dies Aged 66

UTR is saddened to report legendary US rock & roll artist Tom Petty has passed away aged 66 after suffering cardiac arrest. He was found not breathing in his Malibu home on Sunday night and rushed to hospital, where he was later taken off life support.

Leader of The Heartbreakers, Petty enjoyed huge success in the late seventies with hits such as 'Refugee', while his early nineties work with Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra) rejuvenated and revived the classic rocker's career and saw him dominate the top of the charts. His work with supergroup the Travelling Wilburys saw him recording again with Lynne alongside musical titans Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and George Harrison. Petty was still performing with The Heartbreakers, the group had just wrapped up their fortieth anniversary tour last week.
