Thousand Island Shares First Single 'Desert'

Thursday 19th October, 2017 2:57PM

Auckland supergroup Thousand Island have fired their first shots with rocking debut single 'Desert'. A cast of familiar musical faces, the band's four members have contributed to a fistful of local acts including Brand New Math, The Conjurors, Teen Wolf, Sere, Long Distance Runner, Damsels and No Aloha. Recorded in a day with Edward Castelow of Dictaphone Blues, the fried single is the first of four planned releases. Thousand Island will be celebrating the launch of the new song this coming Friday with a ‘Shit Party’ at Auckland's Whammy Bar alongside Dad Jokes, P.H.F and DJ C-Baby.

UTR tracked down singer Brad Fafejta who had this to say about the origins of the tune...

"I moved to New Lynn last year - back to West Auckland where I grew up and it brought back a bunch of memories of general summer malaise... nothing to do, nobody to do it with. No money, no car, just walking around, walking to the mall to kill time etc. Everybody has moved on, all your friends have left, and you are stuck in the suburbs or some small town and its uncomfortable and hot. I suppose it's a little about being some kind of unapologetic sun burned deadbeat ha ha.

It also reminds me of driving down the Desert Rd, which I used to do a LOT in the summers, and really enjoy. The landscape suddenly twists into something else, and it can be very moody. I like to stop and hang out and walk around, and it usually annoys the people Im travelling with."

Catch Thousand Island live at Auckland's Whammy Bar this Friday 20th October alongside Dad Jokes, P.H.F and DJ C-Baby.
