Keepsakes Shares Track 'Pick 'em Till They Bleed' On New Label Haven
Auckland collective Haven have been a pivotal force in encouraging the growth of high quality dance music events in the central city. Co-founders and electronic producers Jaded Nineties Raver and Keepsakes have facilitated a number of club nights including a recent visit from UK innovator Perc, and an upcoming performance by mysterious artist Headless Horseman in January. They've now branched out as a label and have shared a new cut from their debut release, a four song collection of tunes by Keepsakes titled Perspectives From A Sterile Hellhole. We caught up with the artist who shared critical thoughts on maintaining a musical life in Auckland’s socio-political climate, read his comments below and listen to new track 'Pick 'em Till They Bleed'…
"These tracks were written shortly after I arrived back in Auckland after six months of liberation in Berlin. The harsh music and the track and EP titles reflect my feelings about living in Auckland - a city which feels like it is designed for the wealthy and ancient and almost seems to actively strangle any potential for creative growth, both within, but especially outside, the mainstream, despite there being a wealth of incredibly creative groups and individuals residing there. Venue closures and a restrictive regulatory environment for nightlife ventures have given this city an extremely stale feeling in recent years, which I hope for the good of all of us can be reversed. Despite looking good on paper, Auckland is a place that contains a lot of darkness, poverty, and broken individuals worn down by years of being sidelined in favour of rich tourists and the selfish owners of million-dollar properties."
‘Perspectives From A Sterile Hellhole’ is available for pre-order on 12” vinyl via Haven.
