Tāmaki Makaurau hip hop artists Cleophus and Lightskinjohn (Shiraz & LSJ / RISERA) have dropped a six track meeting of minds sporting the name Small Talk, presented by ever-adventurous local independent imprint / collective The Grow Room. Described by Cleophus as "a conversation inspired by a conversation", Small Talk was written and recorded on Karangahape Road, conceived as a response to the gritty yet creatively fertile inner-city strip. The rapper ducks and dives around Lightskinjohn's on-point loops, grooves and slice of life on-location field recordings (via iPhone) – tackling such K Rd-relevant themes as poverty, night life, and working to give back to the district's unique community.
