We weren't sure what form it would end up taking, but one of Aotearoa's most exciting events, the Whānau Mārama: New Zealand International Film Festival, has at last released the schedule for the 79 feature films and seven short film collections curated this year, screening from 24th July to 2nd August. The 2020 festival has gone from business as usual in January, to shifting entirely online due to Covid-19, and now 27 films will be screened in physical theatres throughout the country, with the rest online. You could spend an afternoon exploring the cornucopia of exciting local and international film, animation and documentary on the NZIFF site. Here's a few hot music-adjacent UTR picks to get you started, featuring Marlon Williams, Tilda Swinton, and a stunning look at the Baltimore music scene...

Dark City Beneath The Beat tells the story of the vibrant arts culture bubbling through Baltimore...

Tilda Swinton narrates spooky, doomsday compositions from the late Jóhan Jóhannsson's interpretation of 1930s‌ ‌novel‌ ‌Last And First Men...

Aotearoa's own country music star Marlon Williams features in True History Of The Kelly Gang. I tried very hard to find a trailer with him in it to no avail...
