Kicking off Friday with some news to knock your socks off, Tāmaki Makaurau electronic artist Leaping Tiger has thrilled fans with the announcement his second album Soulsleep will be out on 29th October, the follow up to 2020's all-killer debut Porcelain Orca Whales. He's also shared the final single before that record drops, 'Gooey', showcasing his own vocal skills alongside local pop talent Levyné. The shimmering soul / funk of 'Gooey' doesn't shy away from unpacking the deeply yuck feelings involved when relationships drift apart, inspired by that most contemporary predicament of discovering your ex is dating someone new while casually scrolling social media. Staving off the green-eyed, radioactive sludge-like monster of jealousy can be a tough task for even the mightiest warrior, especially when it catches you unawares. Read Leaping Tiger's own words on the song below and for even more captivating ideas and creations, head over here to check out his new art / mixes Instagram page Extra Sensory Perception LLC, including a special filter for the track (!)...

“‘Gooey’ is a vocalisation of how I was feeling for a week after finding out about my ex’s new partner through social media. I was really shocked at how old feelings can come flooding back from something as simple as a photo on a phone screen. That’s something I’d never been through before.

Gooey is a term I made up to describe that gross feeling of jealousy and envy that just consumes you completely in a situation like that. It’s slimy and hard to wash off… it keeps you up at night.

I’d been sitting on the instrumental trying to get all sorts of people on it whilst I had my own idea of how the song should go in the back of my mind, so as each opportunity to have a different vocalist faded, it became more and more clear I just had to do it and speak for myself for once.”

'Gooey' is out now on major streaming services.
