Press Release:

THE PERFORMANCE ARCADE 2013 LIVE MUSIC SERIES

FEBRUARY 14-17
WELLINGTON WATERFRONT
WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND

The Performance Arcade 2013 returns to Wellington in its third year with a lineup of exciting new performance installations, live music, and events.

This annual free event is a space where the mythologies of the home are investigated in the physical, sensitised world of live art practices: sometimes unsettling, melancholic, exuberant or thoughtful, the diverse range of voices provides a provocative discussion on the intersections between the quotidian and the quixotic, between the domestic and the dream.

The Live Music Series adds another essential facet to the Arcade. In keeping with the diverse range of voices present within the containers, we have selected a diverse array of music to represent Wellington and NZ’s vibrant and eclectic music scene. Each act is uniquely exploring the sonic world: how music relates to the world, how we as humans can communicate through the medium of sound and how sound relates to visual.

There are three streams to the live music at this year’s event:

The Afternoon Music Series (Free to passers by and Arcade visitors).
Friday afternoon 15 Feb - with Athuzela Brown, cinematic live cello looping from Titz Syndrome and the ambient folk group French For Rabbits.
Saturday afternoon 16 Feb - with I.Ryoko, Seth Frightening, Weka and Body Lyre.
Sunday afternoon 17thFeb – with Minelli, Grayson Gilmour, I.Ryoko, Bond Street Bridge + Luckless.

The Evening Music Series
Ticketed ($10.00)
Thursday evening 14th Feb - with Massive Explosion + guests.
Saturday evening 16th Feb - with Urban Tramper, Black City Lights + Guests

'Future folk' pioneers Urban Tramper will be filling the Performance Arcade with their intelligent electronic pop grounded in folk philosophies (‘because we write simple songs for everyone to play and sing along to’) tribal beats and an electronic core. Their lovable hooks will get you going back for more.

Producer and Vocalist dream team duo Black City Lights will be gracing the Performance Arcade stage for us all to sink into. Their deep, spine tingling and haunting sounds will have you in awe. Their beats will have you mesmerised.

The New Music New Media Series
Ticketed ($10.00)
Friday evening 15 February – with the highly explorative Interrup Collective who will be working with and allowing us to experiment with their audio visual interfaces. Other guests include Pyramider, who turn arcs of electricity from a tesla coil into music.
