Lawrence Arabia To Score 'Lonesome' Live Cinema Event

Tuesday 2nd June, 2015 1:23PM

Eccentric indie-pop musician Lawrence Arabia will be teaming up with jazz ensemble Carnivorous Plant Society to live score 1928 film Lonesome as part of this year's New Zealand International Film Festival. The rarely-screened feature by Hungarian-born director Paul Fejös is at its core a love story based in a Big Apple and was initially released as a silent film, but was re-released a few months later with a few additional scenes of dialogue to keep up with the "talkies" trend. The film festival event on 26th July at the Civic Theatre will be a World Premiere score for Lonesome, before heading to Wellington for a screening at Paramount Cinema on 9th August.

Here are a few moments from the film...

Also getting the Live Cinema treatment will be Charlie Chaplin's first feature-length film The Kid (preceded by his 1917 short The Immigrant), which will be scored by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
