Tour Information
Formed in 2015, Alargo, keyboardist Alan Brown and brass/percussionist Kingsley Melhuish craft a world of space and colour within their improvised, electronica-tinged compositions.
Armed with iPads and loopers, Alargo produce beautifully haunting music with the presence of space a noticeable element.
“We are no longer constrained by tempo, melody or form; which enables us to more deeply explore texture and our creative spontaneity,’ says Melhuish.
He says the improvised performances use technology to shape haunting impressions. “We build soundscapes… and set them adrift.”
While Brown and Melhuish are well regarded as jazz musicians having played and performed throughout New Zealand, Alargo is a new persona for both men who are excited at pushing the boundaries into a new genre.
“We are taking our audience on a journey that’s new for them, because it’s new for us. That makes for some exciting performances” says Melhuish.
Alargo have released two albums to date, Central Plateau and Primacy, available on Bandcamp Spotify, iTunes ...

“This music creates a world we wished we lived in. A world of exotic grooves and shifting realities.” – John Fenton, Jazzlocal32.com

“Alargo have transplanted reflective
Nordic aesthetics into a South Pacific musical landscape, blending the plaintive sounds of blown wood and seashell with ethereal electronic textures.” – Andrew Dubber, Director of Music Tech Fest, Bandcamp advisor
