Lucy Smyth / Ella Dunbar-Wilcox / Lauren Armstrong

Lucy Smyth (rhymes with knife) is the alias of Lucy Macilquham, because Macilquham doesn’t rhyme with anything. At age 14 Smyth performed a bold rendition of ‘Seven Nation Army’ (by the White Stripes) for her high school music class in Timaru. Her one-woman-show saw her play bass, drums and sing simultaneously, almost breaking a limb in the process. Preferring to keep all limbs intact, Lucy chose to focus on singing and, fast forward to 2020, she has a degree in jazz performance, majoring in vocals. Lucy might be known to some for her work as part of the Christchurch-based electro pop band, Sparkle Kitty. Her move to Wellington in 2016 marked the beginnings of her solo project and new sonic direction. After three years of experimentation in her music room, Lucy is ready to share the results with the world. Her music is a creative fusion of electronic, industrial and mechanical sounds blended and supported by the textures and harmony of jazz and folk. Lucy is backed by Jonny Martin on drums and sequencing, Luke Burns on guitar, Ella Dunbar-Wilcox on backing vocals and Lauren Armstrong on backing vocals.

Lauren Armstrong, jazz vocalist will perform and opening set followed by Ella Dunbar-Wilcox, jazz pianist and vocalist.
