Tour Information
Aunty’s Garage is the genre-bending musical project of Tāmaki Makarau-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Māia Huia. A collection of some of Auckland’s most talented and creative supporting musicians, Aunty’s Garage perform exciting and often unpredictable live shows, a combination of original compositions as well as interpretations of other artists materials.

As a songwriter Māia Huia draws inspiration and incorporates elements from a wide range of genres and styles to create songs that explore and reflect the chaos and complexity of the human experience. Influenced by Old-School Soul & Motown artists and 90’s/00’s RnB, the sound is typified by soulful vocals, tight grooves and lush harmonies, often seasoned with elements of Hip-Hop, Jazz, Pop, and Rock. Lyrics are cheeky and playful yet meloncholic and instrospective, delivery ranging from tender and vulnerable to brutally blunt and honest, exploring themes of dealing with and overcoming struggle in our communities as well as individuals navigating the world as we learn to navigate ourselves.

In celebration of NZ Music Month 2021, Aunty’s Garage will be paying tribute to some of Aotearoa’s finest, playing their own arrangements and remixes of local tunes by artists such as: Ladi 6, Ardijah, Opensouls, Aaradhna, & Che Fu. On the lineup Māia Huia (Guitar/Vocals) will be joined by “Stanky” bandmates Stallone D’Souza (Keys) & Dean Rodrigues (Bass) as well as Timothee Nolier (Drums) of The Noise with guest vocalists to be announced.
