OMAR vs Mark de Clive Lowe
With Borrowed CS (live), DJs Mu, The Jewel School and Myele Manzanza.
This is a night for music lovers. You’ll be part of a soulful, improvised experience
crafted exclusively for Wellington audiences.
Our international guests Omar and Mark de Clive Lowe will captivate with their high energy dance floor beats and soulful vocals, layered live. It’s a mind boggling sight to see and absolute bliss to hear.
Classic Omar joints, favourite covers and MdCL flavors, all flipped on the spot, performed and remixed live in real time.
Soul pioneer Omar is a bonafide legend - cited as a favorite by non other than D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and the original soul man himself - Stevie Wonder. He’s credited with creating Neo-Soul and has influenced everyone from Maxwell to The Roots.
Gilles Peterson championed Omar early in his career with the timeless hit “There’s Nothing Like This” and since then he’s collaborated with Common, Badu, D’Angelo, Syreeta Wright, Rodney P and of course, Stevie Wonder who went on record saying, “When I grow up I wanna be like Omar.”
He was awarded an MBE for services to the British Music Industry and is currently celebrating his 8th studio album “Love in Beats” which also features Robert Glasper and UK rapper Ty.
Mark de Clive-Lowe has taken his music far and wide since growing up in Auckland -
his decade at the epicenter of the UK’s broken beat movement saw the keys master
collaborate with not only the formative West London producers 4Hero, Bugz in the Attic, Restless Soul and IG Culture, but also the likes of Pino Palladino, techno producer Dave Angel and even Goldie’s Metalheadz label in collaboration with Nathan Haines and Lemon D. He lent his skills to US club music dons Francois K, DJ Spinna and Waajeed and now, nine years deep based in Los Angeles, has collaborated there with Sheila E, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Chris Daddy Dave, Harvey Mason and more.
He’s taken his acclaimed jazz-meets-the-dancefloor party CHURCH worldwide and is currently working on album number 14.
