One On One is the transcontinental project of Sam Rogers (aka The One Mouth Band) and Nicolle Laney Lane. The beatboxing and instrumental a cappella stylings of The One Mouth Band might not seem the obvious match for a soloist from Australias premier gospel choir (Café of the Gate of Salvation), but when Sam lent his influence to Nicolles original tunes, the duo realised they were on to something special. This is their first tour in New Zealand and their only performance in the Wellington area.
From their first explosive performances in the San Francisco Bay Area to their recent successes in Sydney and Peats Ridge Festival, One On One have been charming audiences with with a blend of musical flavours that surprises and captivates. The duo create 100% organic human music – produced entirely by their two voices, with only the help of microphones and a looper pedal – but you wouldnt be crazy for thinking otherwise when you hear drums, bass, guitar, horns and even the occasional synthesizer, all generated by The One Mouth Band. Jazz, blues, funk, rock, dub, electronica and folk all play their part, creating a style they dub trip-folk. Whatever you call it, the music comes straight from the soul, and shoots for the heart.
The One Mouth Band will also be performing his international award-winning solo vocal act, full of soulful originals and jazz standards. Often compared to Bobby McFerrin, his a cappella ventures are as interactive as they are captivating.
